What Exactly is Gum disease?

Gum or periodontal disease is an infection in your gums caused by a buildup of plaque on your teeth. When this plaque remains in contact with your gums, it causes a reaction that in its early stages is called gingivitis.

If gingivitis is not caught and treated immediately, it will progress. Unfortunately, the majority of gum disease cases are currently undiagnosed. The biggest mistake adults make is thinking that just because they received a clean bill of health at their last appointment, they can skip the next checkup or cleaning.
