When Should I Worry About Wisdom Teeth?

added on: June 28, 2013

Wisdom-tooth

Unless you’ve ignored any symptoms of pain or problems with your wisdom teeth, or if you’ve haven’t been to your Charlottesville dentist lately, you shouldn’t worry about them at all!

What are wisdom teeth?

The wisdom teeth are technically called the third molars. They usually start to come in during the late teens and early 20s, when many people are in college or starting new jobs, hopefully learning and gaining wisdom!

Why are wisdom teeth extracted?

Wisdom teeth can often come in only part way or not at all. When this happens, they’re called partially or fully impacted. In other cases, they may erupt in odd positions, even at complete right angles to your other teeth!

If we don’t need wisdom teeth, why do we still get them?

Good question! Scientists are studying that  but we still don’t know the answer. What’s interesti
ng is that in some areas of the world, almost 100 percent of people don’t get wisdom teeth, and in other areas nearly 100 percent do get their wisdom teeth!

One thing we do know is that prevention is always a wise move!  Contact us at our Charlottesville dental office if you’re experiencing any problems, or if it’s time for a regular checkup!
